Belov village in Jammu and Kashmir’s Pulwama district saw a complete shutdown on Monday, after protesters clashed with security forces. A curfew-like situation prevailed in the region, in response to the killing of two Hizbul Mujahideen militants at Padgampora near Awantipora on Sunday. Two protesters are believed to have been injured in the clashes, Greater Kashmir reported.

One of the militants killed – Shahbaz Shafi Wani alias Rayees Kachroo – belonged to Belov. Thousands took part in the last rites of Wani and Farooq Ahmad Hurra, the other militant gunned down, on Monday. Multiple funeral prayers were offered to accommodate all those who turned up, according to Greater Kashmir. Their associates were reportedly seen given them the gun salute.

The towns of Pulwama and Shopian in South Kashmir also witnessed a complete shutdown on Monday. There were protests in Hurra’s home village, Nazneenpora, as well.
