Bengaluru: Former French diplomat acquitted after being accused of raping his 3-year-old daughter
Pascal Mazurier’s wife, Suja Jones, had said her domestic help told her about her husband’s crime.
A Bengaluru court on Wednesday acquitted former French diplomat Pascal Mazurier in a case where he was accused of raping his three-year-old daughter. Police had registered a case against Mazurier, who served as the deputy head of the Chancery in the French Consulate in Bengaluru, in June 2012, The News Minute reported.
The diplomat was granted bail in October 2012, after the Karnataka High Court ruled that no prima facie case had been made out against him. The court had said forensic evidence had also not indicated any signs of the crime. Mazurier’s wife, Suja Jones, said her domestic help had told her about Mazurier’s crime. She had sought the intervention of a non-governmental organisation in 2012 and had also appealed to then Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and External Affairs Minister SM Krishna.
Pascal said he was “happy” with the verdict. “The honorable court has taken the evidence into consideration and given the judgement. The police have done a fantastic job,” Pascal’s lawyer said, The News Minute reported.
