Priyanka Gandhi Vadra on Thursday dismissed speculation that the source of her finances were linked to her husband Robert Vadra’s or his company Skylight Hospitality’s deals with realty firm DLF, which are currently under the government’s scanner. A statement from her office said the source of funds for her purchase of agricultural land in Faridabad’s Amipur village “has no relationship whatsoever with Robert Vadra’s finances and/or Skylight Hospitality”.

Gandhi had reportedly purchased the property for Rs 15 lakh on April 28, 2006, six years before Skylight Hospitality’s controversial deal with DLF. Gandhi’s statement said the land was resold to the original owner four years later on February 17, 2010 for Rs 80 lakh, the then prevailing market price. The money was accepted through cheque.

“The source of funds for the aforesaid purchase was rental income of Priyanka Gandhi Vadra from property inherited by her from her grandmother Indira Gandhi. The source of funds for this or any other property acquired by Priyanka Gandhi Vadra has no relationship whatsoever with Robert Vadra’s finances and/or Skylight Hospitality and no relationship whatsoever with DLF,” the statement said.
It dismissed speculation over the matters as “false, baseless and defamatory” and said that “a deliberate, politically motivated and malicious campaign to besmirch and destroy her reputation” was behind these allegations.

In July 2016, Vadra had dismissed the allegations against him and said he would always be “used for political gains”. He had bought a 3.5-acre plot in Gurugram, then Gurgaon, for Rs 7.5 crore in 2008 and sold it for Rs 58 crore to real estate company DLF.

DLF and Vadra have both denied allegations of wrongdoing in the case.
