Two days after CBI raids, Karti Chidambaram leaves for London with a friend
The former finance minister’s son and INX Media are accused of not disclosing money received in foreign funding.
Karti Chidambaram, son of Congress leader P Chidambaram, left for London on Thursday, two days after the Central Bureau of Investigation conducted raids on properties linked to both of them. Karti Chidambaram, himself a Congress leader, is believed to have left with a friend, PTI quoted airport officials as saying.
The CBI on Tuesday had raided up to 16 premises associated with the former Union minister and his son. Thez searches had been conducted at locations in Mumbai, Delhi, Gurugram and Chennai. They came days after the agency filed an FIR against Karti Chidambaram and INX Media for criminal conspiracy and cheating. The officials said they were investigating the charge that Karti Chidambaram’s company had received Rs 10 lakh from INX Media, which got a Foreign Exchange Promotion Board clearance for Rs 4 crores, but had actually received Rs 305 crores in foreign funding.
The younger Chidambaram, however, had dismissed the raids and said they were politically motivated. “I have done nothing wrong. They could not prove allegations against me, they want to silence our voice,” Karti Chidambaram had said.
