I-T department raids premises of several UP bureaucrats suspected of not paying taxes
The offices of four government officers in Lucknow, Noida, Meerut and Mainpuri have been searched so far.
The Income Tax department on Wednesday conducted raids at the premises of several bureaucrats across Uttar Pradesh on charges of tax evasion, reported PTI. At least 15 premises of four state government officers in Lucknow, Noida, Meerut, Mainpuri and Delhi have been covered since Wednesday morning.
The officers in question are VK Sharma, the additional CEO of the Greater Noida Authority and his wife Mamta Sharma, who is Meerut’s Regional Transport Officer, along with Director (Health) Hriday Shankar Tewari, and Special Secretary (Prisons) SK Singh. As many as eight warrants each against Tewari and the Sharmas are being executed across several cities, The Times of India reported, quoting an unidentified official.
The I-T department had searched over 20 premises last month in Uttar Pradesh while targeting a few other bureaucrats.
