It’s definitely happening: Tom Cruise confirms ‘Top Gun’ sequel
The actor said he would probably start filming for it next year.
Hollywood actor Tom Cruise on Wednesday put all rumours to rest and confirmed that there is going to be sequel to his 1986 film, Top Gun. “I’m going to start filming it probably in the next year. It’s definitely happening,” the actor told Australian TV show Sunrise. “You’re the first people that I’ve said this to,” he added.
In January last year, producer Jerry Bruckheimer had said that he was speaking to Cruise about the sequel. “Just got back from a weekend in New Orleans to see my old friend @TomCruise and discuss a little Top Gun 2,” he had tweeted. Val Kilmer, who had starred in the original film, had also hinted at the sequel in April this year, according to The Guardian.
Cruise had played a fighter pilot in the iconic 1986 film. It had also starred Tim Robbins, Meg Ryan, Tom Skerrit and Kelly McGillis. The cult classic, which was about a squad of fighter pilots, has earned $356 million globally. The film got several Oscar nominations and won best original song for Berlin’s Take My Breath Away.
