The state government has sought a report from the Nashik police about the incident after it was brought to light by a news channel who aired video clips.
A Maharashtra minister, Girish Mahajan, is in trouble after he was caught on camera attending the wedding reception of a relative of underworld don Dawood Ibrahim. The video clips were shown on a regional news channel, IBN Lokmat, on Wednesday. The wedding took place on May 19 in Nashik.
The state government has sought a report about the incident from the Nashik police, Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis told Hindustan Times. Besides Mahajan, 10 police officers, including an assistant commissioner of police, and a few legislators are also believed to have attended the wedding.
Mahajan is in charge of the ministries of water conservation and medical education. He is also the guardian minister of the Nashik district. He said he was invited to the wedding by a local religious leader, who happens to be related to the groom.
The bride’s aunt is married to Ibrahim’s brother, NDTV reported. Ibrahim is one of India’s most wanted criminals.
