Mobile messaging platform WhatsApp is all set to introduce a “recall” feature that will allow users to revoke misdirected messages.

Users will be able to recall text messages, images, GIF files, documents, quoted messages and status replies within a five-minute window, reported The Independent. But, they will only be able to edit recent messages, not old ones.

WABetaInfo, a fan website that tests new WhatsApp features, claimed the new component could be introduced soon. “WhatsApp has added in beta the possibility to edit messages that you already sent. It is actually disabled by default and it’s under development,” an earlier tweet from WABetaInfo read.

“Recall” will be enabled in the “2.17.30+” version of the app. WhatsApp’s current version is “2.17.190”. The sent text would be deleted from both the phones. However, the date of the release of this feature is currently unknown.

The messaging platform will soon be introducing another change that will allow users to change their numbers within the app itself, Financial Express reported.

WhatsApp currently has 1.2 billion monthly active users and is available in more than 50 different languages around the world. There are 200 million monthly active users in India alone.
