Two militants were killed on Sunday in an encounter at Delhi Public School in Jammu and Kashmir’s Srinagar. Two Army soldiers were also injured in the gunfight. “The bodies of the two militants have been spotted inside one room from where firing had started,” India Today quoted an unidentified official as saying. “There has been no firing from the militants during the last one hour.”

The duo had taken shelter in the school after attacking a Central Reserve Police Force patrol party on Saturday and killing one soldier. The exchange of fire between the security personnel and the militants began at 4.30 am.

On Saturday, the CRPF personnel were attacked while they were overseeing the construction of a road near the school close to Srinagar-Jammu National Highway. Soon after the strike, they took shelter inside the DPS complex. Security forces surrounded the school to prevent the militants from escaping.

The Lashkar-e-Taiba group had claimed responsibility for the attack, according to India Today. Srinagar District Magistrate Farooq Ahmad Lone imposed restrictions in the stretch between Ram Munshibagh and Sempora along the Srinagar-Jammu National Highway on Saturday after the attack.

The wreath laying ceremony of CRPF sub inspector Sahab Shukla was held on Sunday, ANI reported. The mortal remains of the jawan was brought to his hometown Gorakhpur in Uttar Pradesh via a helicopter from Delhi.

Telecom companies asked to bring down internet speed

Meanwhile, the state police has directed telecom companies to reduce mobile internet service speeds in the Kashmir Valley. They have been asked to bring down 3G and 4G data services to 2G speed – not more than 128 kbps – immediately, according to ANI.
