At least seven Communist Party of India (Marxist) activists were injured in Payannur town of Kerala on Tuesday when country-made bombs were thrown at a gathering of party workers, reported NDTV. The attack came when the workers had assembled to protest the killing of CPI(M) activist Dhanaraj, who was hacked to death in July 2016 outside his home.

Hours later, the offices of the Bharatiya Janata Party and Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh were set on fire. The BJP claimed that CPI(M) was behind the attack. One BJP worker was injured in the attack, after which the BJP called for a shutdown in Payyanur on Wednesday.

However, CPI(M) rejected the BJP’s allegations, instead accusing members of the saffron party of throwing the three country-made bombs during their meeting.

The police said houses belonging to members of both the parties had been attacked. Some people have been taken into custody in connection with the incidents. The situation is now under control, police officials told PTI.
