United States President Donald Trump on Tuesday said his son was a “high-quality person” for disclosing details of his meeting with a Russian national in order to receive sensitive information about Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton, Reuters reported.

Donald Trump Jr on Tuesday had released emails revealing details of his meeting with Russian lawyer Natalia Veselnitskaya ahead of the presidential elections last year.

“My son is a high-quality person and I applaud his transparency,” the president said in a brief statement that was read to reporters by White House spokeswoman Sarah Sanders.

In the email, publicist Rob Goldstone wrote that “the crown prosecutor of Russia” was willing to support the Trump campaign with “official documents and information that would incriminate Hillary [Clinton]”, according to The Guardian. Donald Trump Jr had replied to the email, welcoming the offer. “If it’s what you say, I love it,” he had written.

On Monday, Donald Trump Jr had admitted to meeting Veselnitskaya, but said that no “meaningful information” was revealed.
