J&K: Pahalgam market observes a shutdown over the killing of Amarnath Yatra pilgrims
Several trade bodies and civil society groups had held silent protests against the attack on Tuesday.
A market in Jammu and Kashmir’s Pahalgam near the Nunwan camp of the Amarnath Yatra observed a shutdown on Wednesday, in protest against the July 10 killing of seven pilgrims, PTI reported. The yatra passes through the market on its way to the cave shrine.
“Shops and other business establishments in the Pahalgam tourist resort observed a complete shutdown today in protest against the attack on Amarnath pilgrims,” a police officer said.
The pilgrimage, however, was reported to have been going on smoothly on Wednesday.
Separatist groups, including both factions of the Hurriyat Conference and Jammu Kashmir Liberation Front have condemned the attacks. Several trade bodies and civil society groups had held silent protests against the attack on Tuesday.
Seven Amarnath Yatra pilgrims were killed and 18 others were injured after militants had attacked their bus in Jammu and Kashmir’s Anantnag district on Monday evening. The militants had fired at their bus, which had been on the journey from Gujarat.
