Two German women were stabbed to death and four other foreign tourists were injured on Friday at a hotel in Egypt’s Hurghada town, reported AP. The wounded have been identified as citizens of Ukraine and the Czech Republic. The Interior Ministry said the attacker had been arrested.

A security official said the assailant – a man in his 20s – had intentionally sought to attack foreigners. “Stay away, I don’t want Egyptians,” he had said in Arabic before wielding his knife on the tourists, the official told AP. The motive, however, is still unclear.

The man first killed the two German tourists and wounded two others at Zahabia Hotel in Hurghada. He then swam to a neighbouring beach, where he attacked at least two more people, reported The Guardian.

The incident took place hours after five policemen died in a shooting outside Cairo. Bike-borne gunmen had opened fire on a security vehicle in Giza village. No group has claimed responsibility for the attack, but officials believe it was the handiwork of a small militant group called known as Hasm.
