Actor-turned-politician Roopa Ganguly on Friday challenged Congress and Trinamool Congress leaders and their supporters to send their female relatives to West Bengal, saying they will not be able to survive in the state for even 15 days without getting raped without Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee’s hospitality.

The Bharatiya Janata Party leader told ANI that she would retract her statement if those flattering Banerjee send their wives and daughters to West Bengal and they survive the state for 15 days without getting raped.

“I dare all the parties, the ones who keep flattering the West Bengal government and the [Trinamool] Congress, to send their daughters, sisters-in-law, wives to Bengal, without taking any hospitality from Mamata Banerjee,” she told ANI. “If they are able to survive there for 15 days without getting raped, then tell me.”

On Saturday, the Bharatiya Janata Party leader followed her bizarre statement with one just as absurd, saying a fortnight was longer than women could survive in the state without protection.

Her statements came in the wake of unrest in West Bengal, where Darjeeling has seen renewed protests demanding a separate state of Gorkhaland and a social media post triggered communal violence in the districts of Basirhat and Baduria.
