A mob allegedly assaulted five people over suspicions of carrying beef in Faridabad on Saturday, The Hindu reported. Police said they are trying to identify the accused attackers based on a video clip of the incident. Police personnel registered a case against the victims based on claims that they were transporting beef. Another FIR has also been registered against the unidentified alleged attackers.

One of the victims, identified as Azad, claimed that the attackers demanded that he chant “Jai Gau Mata” and “Jai Hanuman”, NDTV reported. “I refused,” Azad told the news channel. “They said we are going to feed you pork if you do not.”

The meat samples have been sent for a forensic examination. “Since slaughtering of cow is an offence in Haryana, a case has been registered against the five men as well,” said Faridabad Police spokesperson. The meat appears to be buffalo meat, senior police officer Radheyshyam told NDTV.

“We are trying to identify the accused [attackers] based on the video clip,” said Mujesar Police Station House Officer Vinod Kumar. “None will be spared.”

The family of the victims have refuted speculation that their relatives were transporting beef, NDTV reported.
