At least 32 people were killed and over 200 injured after militants attacked a police training centre in Afghanistan’s Gardez city, AFP reported. The victims include “women, students and police officers”, Public Health Director in Gardez Hedayatullah Hamidi said.

Afghanistan’s Ministry of Interior Affairs said the attackers first detonated a car bomb and then entered the police training centre, the ToloNews reported. A gunfight between security personnel and the militants is still on. At least six attackers have been killed by security forces, according to the BBC.

Several ambulances are present at the scene of the incident. The police chief was among the dead.

The Taliban has claimed responsibility for the attack, but the government has not confirmed this yet.

The headquarters of the national police, border police, and Afghan National Army are located in the centre’s compound, the BBC reported.
