On Diwali, Sushma Swaraj says MEA will grant medical visas in all ‘deserving cases’
On Wednesday, the minister directed the Indian High Commission in Islamabad to issue a visa for the treatment of a Pakistani child in India.
Union External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj on Thursday said on Twitter that India would grant medical visas in “all deserving cases” that are pending “on the auspicious occasion of Diwali”.
A Pakistani woman, Amna Shamin, whose father is in New Delhi for treatment, had sought a visa to India because she wanted to meet her father. Responding to this, Swaraj tweeted, “Please contact the Indian High Commission in Pakistan. We will allow this.”
On Wednesday, Swaraj had directed the Indian High Commission in Islamabad to issue a visa for the treatment of a Pakistani child in India. The child’s father had requested Swaraj to grant a medical visa for the treatment of Abdullah, who needed post-liver transplant evaluation in India.
“The treatment of your child must not suffer for want of medicine,” said Swaraj. “I have asked the Indian High Commission to issue medical visa.” She also promised to grant a visa to other Pakistani nationals who want to visit India for treatment.
