Kashmir: Woman dies, another injured after gunmen open fire in Pulwama district
The police believe a Jaish-e-Muhammad militant is behind the shooting.
Suspected militants shot and killed a woman and injured another in South Kashmir’s Pulwama district on Sunday afternoon, the Greater Kashmir reported.
The victim, Yasmeena, was a resident of Khonmoh in Pulwama district. The injured woman, Ruby, was taken to a hospital in Srinagar and is believed to be in a critical condition, the police said.
A police cordon is in place to catch the gunmen, PTI reported.
Awantipora Superintendent of Police Muhammad Zahid Malik told the Greater Kashmir that the police suspect that Jaish-e-Muhammad militant Noor Mohammad Tantray was behind the shooting.
In another incident in Pulwama district on Saturday evening, five masked militants ransacked the house of a police officer, IANS reported on Sunday. People inside the assistant sub-inspector’s house managed to escape immediately after the attackers arrived, authorities said.
