Delhi: On Diwali night, jewellery worth Rs 12 crore stolen from two units in Karol Bagh
The police suspect the tenants who lived on the first floor of the building were involved.
Five men broke into two jewellery manufacturing units in Central Delhi’s Karol Bagh on Diwali night and stole valuables worth Rs 12 crore, PTI reported on Sunday. The burglary was captured on CCTV cameras. “Based on CCTV footage, we have identified the accused and a search is on,” The Indian Express quoted Deputy Commissioner of Police (central) Mandeep Singh Randhawa as saying.
The manufacturing units were located on the second and fourth floors of a four-storey building in the Raigar Pura area. In the first unit, the burglars had broke open two safes and stole valuables worth Rs 6.80 crore. Jewellery worth Rs 5.20 crore was stolen from the second unit. One of the jewellers told The Times of India that he came to know about the incident a day after Diwali when he got a call from the neighbouring shop around 11.30 am.
The police suspect the tenants who lived on the first floor of the building were involved. Residents of the area told the police that a man from Nepal and his friends who lived on the first floor of the building have been missing since the heist. The building owner was showed the CCTV footage and he identified the thieves as his missing tenants, The Indian Express reported.
