Delhi: Man confesses to murdering his wife after claiming a moneylender got her killed, say police
Pankaj Mehra thought he could blame the money lender who would be arrested and he would not have to return the Rs 40 lakh, police said.
A Delhi restaurateur was arrested on Thursday for allegedly killing his wife in a car a day before, ANI reported. The man, Pankaj Mehra, confessed to the crime during an interrogation, police said.
After the murder on Wednesday morning in Shalimar Bagh, Mehra had told police that the family was travelling in their car when another car overtook them and tried to shoot at him, but the bullets hurt his wife Priya. Their two-year-old son was not hurt.
He alleged that a moneylender was behind the attack, as he had not yet repaid the sum he had borrowed from him.
“Pankaj’s interrogation overnight has revealed that it was all his own work,” Deputy Commissioner of Police Milind Dumbere told the Hindustan Times. “He shot dead his wife and tried to blame the moneylender for it. There was no second car...Pankaj thought he could blame the money lender who would be arrested and he wouldn’t have to return the Rs 40 lakh.”
