Sonia Gandhi admitted to hospital in Delhi
The Sir Ganga Ram Hospital said the Congress president was brought in with an upset stomach.
Congress President Sonia Gandhi was admitted to Sir Ganga Ram Hospital in New Delhi on Friday evening with an upset stomach. “Sonia Gandhi was brought to the hospital today evening at 5 pm,” said DS Rana, the facility’s chairman of the board of management, according to The Hindu. “She has been found to be suffering from an upset stomach. Gandhi has been admitted for observation.”
She was brought to Delhi from Shimla in Himachal Pradesh, where she was on a holiday.
The 70-year-old has been reported to be unwell for months now. She was admitted to the hospital on May 7 with food poisoning and discharged on May 12, PTI reported. The Congress president also underwent a shoulder surgery at the same hospital in 2016 and was briefly hospitalised in November because of a viral fever.
Given the reports of her heath, there has been speculation about when her son and Congress Vice President Rahul Gandhi will take over as the party chief. On October 13, Sonia Gandhi had said he will take over the Congress soon. “You have been asking this for so many years, and it is now happening,” she had told NDTV.
