The Japan Police on Wednesday said the man who is believed to have murdered nine people lured them online, Japan Times reported. On Tuesday, the police had arrested the 27-year-old man after they found the dismembered remains of nine bodies in an apartment in Kanagawa Prefecture’s Zama,

The Metropolitan Police Department found the bodies during their investigation into the disappearance of a 23-year-old woman amid fears that there was a serial killer on the loose, The New York Times reported. Officials suspect the woman was one of his victims and are conducting DNA tests to identify the remains.

Takahiro Shiraishi has confessed to killing all nine victims – eight women and one man – soon after moving into an apartment in August, the Japan Times reported. He told the police that he met his victims through Twitter. Shiraishi reportedly stored the heads of his victims in cooler boxes.

Shiraishi is believed to have told the police that one of his motives was theft. The accused has also admitted to assaulting some of the women, Japan Times reported.

The search for the 23-year-old woman led the police to a suicide website, where she is believed to have posted a message asking for someone to commit the act together.
