Mizoram Finance Minister Lalsawta says the state is reeling under financial crisis because of GST
The Centre has released less than 50% of funds allocated to the state since July, the minister added.
Mizoram’s Finance and Taxation Minister Lalsawta has said the state government is facing financial crisis as the Centre had released less than 50% of funds allocated to it since July, when the Goods and Services Tax was implemented, PTI reported.
The Minister held an emergency meeting with top officials to review the situation, news website Zoram Observer reported. He said GST was poorly implemented because of poor internet connectivity.
Lalsawta added that the situation would worsen further if the Centre revised the salaries of government employees as per the recommendations of the Seventh Pay Commission. If the government implemented the pay panel’s proposals, Mizoram would incur an additional annual expenditure of Rs 800 crore, he said.
