The Assam Police have arrested 11 officers in connection with a jobs-for-cash scam in the Assam Public Service Commission, The Indian Express reported on Wednesday.

The scam in the public service commission allegedly took place when the Congress, headed by Tarun Gogoi, was in power in the state, The Shillong Times reported. It came to light with the arrest of a government engineer in Dibrugarh in October 2016 for allegedly collecting cash from candidates on behalf of the panel’s chairperson Rakesh Kumar Paul. A month later, Paul was arrested.

Of the 11 arrested, seven are from the Assam Civil Service while four are from the state police service. All the 11 officers are from the 2013 batch, reported The Indian Express. The police said that 14 more officers will be taken into custody in the next few days.

The arrests come a day after Ranjit Gogoi, the director of the state government’s Directorate of Information and Public Relations, was arrested in connection with a scam involving around Rs 32 crore.
