The Pakistan Foreign Office on Saturday said it had received a response from India to Islambad’s offer to allow a meeting between former Indian Navy officer Kulbhushan Jadhav and his wife on “humanitarian grounds”. India’s reply was being considered, Foreign Office spokesperson Mohammad Faisal said on Twitter.

In its reply, New Delhi has expressed reservations in sending Jadhav’s wife alone to Pakistan, Dawn reported quoting unidentified officials. India has insisted that Jadhav’s mother application to visit him should also be processed.

Jadhav was arrested by Pakistani officials in March 2016 and sentenced to death on espionage charges. In May, the International Court of Justice stayed Jadhav’s execution till the hearing in the case was completed. It had also told Pakistan to give consular access to Jadhav, which Islamabad has not done so far.

In June, the United Nations’ judicial body asked India to submit its arguments by September 13. Pakistan has time till December 13 to submit its counter arguments.
