The Jammu and Kashmir Police on Sunday said they are investigating claims by the Islamic State group that they carried out the terror attack on a police party in Srinagar’s Zakura area on November 17, The Indian Express reported. A sub-inspector was killed and a special police officer was injured in the attack.

Officers said it was too early to comment on the terror outfit’s claim, which was published by its affiliated Amaq news agency. “This is also the third outfit in the valley that has claimed responsibility,” Inspector General of Police Muneer Khan told the newspaper.

According to the Site Intel Group, this is the first time the Islamic State group has claimed an attack in the Kashmir Valley.

At a press conference on Sunday, Jammu and Kashmir Director General of Police SP Vaid said he is sceptical of the Islamic State’s claim. “I don’t think ISIS has any imprints here in Kashmir,” he said, referring to the group as the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria.
