Two fishermen were injured on Sunday after an Indian Coast Guard ship crashed into their boat off the coast of Mandapam near Rameswaram in Tamil Nadu, PTI reported. The boat sank after the collision near Krusadai Island early morning, the police said.

The two injured men were rescued by other fishermen and taken to hospital. An investigation is under way.

The incident comes just two weeks after allegations that the Coast Guard fired at fishermen and beat them in the boat near Rameswaram, which led to widespread controversy.

Two fishermen were injured in the incident on November 13. The Coast Guard denied the firing, and Defence Minister Nirmala Sitharaman said the Coast Guard does not use the kind of bullets used in the firing.

A Coast Guard commander later refuted Sitharaman’s claim of the bullet type not being in use, which prompted the Defence Ministry to rebuke the media for “incorrect and mischievous reporting”.
