Gujarat elections: BJP, Congress release fresh list of candidates ahead of nomination deadline
A few Congress workers vandalised property at the party’s Gandhinagar office reportedly because they were unhappy with the distribution of tickets.

The Bharatiya Janata Party on Monday released its sixth list of 34 candidates for the Gujarat Assembly elections. Monday is the deadline to file nominations for the second phase of the polls.
The BJP, which has ruled Gujarat for 22 years, has included the names of 12 leaders from the Patidar community in this list.

On Sunday night, the Congress released its third list of 76 candidates. The party had earlier announced the names of 86 candidates in two lists. However, it has not been able to finalise its candidates for 20 seats, PTI reported.
After the Congress released its list, some reports said workers had vandalised property at the party office in Gandhinagar as they were upset about the distribution of tickets. They burnt effigies and demolished property as they strongly opposed Arvind Singh Chauhan’s candidature from the Amraiwadi seat in Ahmedabad, India Today reported.
The Gujarat Assembly polls will be held in two phases – voting for 89 seats of Saurashtra and the South Gujarat region will be held on December 9 and for 93 seats in the central and northern regions on December 14. The results will be declared on December 18.
