New York: At least 16 injured in fire at Bronx borough
The incident happened just days after a blaze at the borough killed 12 people.
At least 16 people were injured after a blaze tore through the Bronx, a borough in New York on Tuesday, the New York City Fire Department said. All the injuries are non-life-threatening, the agency said.
The fire broke out at 5.30 am local time (4 pm Indian Standard Time) in a four-story building with a furniture shop on the ground floor, New York City Fire Department Spokesperson Kenneth Reilly told Reuters. It set off six alarms.
Over 200 firefighters are trying to douse the blaze in freezing temperature, Reilly said. He added that the cause of the fire has not yet been determined.
Tuesday’s fire occurred just days after another blaze at the Bronx borough killed 12, including four children. In that case, a child playing with a stove had set off the fire.
