Former Finance Minister P Chidambaram’s son Karti Chidambaram urged the Supreme Court on Saturday not to pass any order without hearing him if the Enforcement Directorate challenges Delhi High Court’s interim order, ANI reported. Karti Chidambaram is being investigated in the INX Media case.

The High Court on Friday ordered the investigating agency not to arrest him till March 20, when it will take up the matter again. In his plea before the High Court, Karti Chidambaram had claimed that the agency did not have the jurisdiction to issue notices based on a First Information Report that the Central Bureau of Investigation had filed.

His lawyer, Arun Natarajan, also turned down the Central Bureau of Investigation’s request for a polygraph test on Karti Chidambaram, ANI reported. “There cannot be a compulsion with regard to this test. We have given a written rejection saying that we are not accepting the polygraph test,” Natarajan said.

However, a special court in Delhi’s Patiala House Courts complex on Friday granted the CBI Karti Chidambaram’s custody till March 12.

In May 2017, the ED had filed a money laundering case against Karti Chidambaram, INX Media and its directors, including Indrani Mukerjea and Peter Mukerjea. Chidambaram’s company allegedly received Rs 10 lakh from INX Media – which had received clearance from the Foreign Exchange Promotion Board for foreign funding of Rs 4 crore, but actually received Rs 305 crore in 2007. P Chidambaram was the finance minister in the Congress-led United Progressive Alliance government at that time.

According to the Enforcement Directorate, the money was allegedly paid to Karti Chidambaram in return for help with getting out of the situation without facing any punitive action. Karti Chidambaram has repeatedly denied any wrongdoing.
