The Akhil Bharatiya Pratinidhi Sabha, the highest decision-making body of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh, on Saturday re-elected Suresh Joshi alias Bhayyaji as the Sarkaryavah (general secretary) of the RSS. This is Joshi’s third straight reelection to the post.

Joshi’s re-election puts an end to speculation that he could be replaced by Dattatreya Hosabale, as reported by Scroll.in.

Joshi was elected for a term of three years at the RSS’ annual meeting in Nagpur. RSS communications in-charge Manmohan Vaidya made the announcement at a press conference at the venue of the meeting, The Hindu reported.

“Virendra Parakramaditya, the Kanpur-based sanghchalak, seconded this proposal [to make Joshi the general secretary],” Vaidya said. “As there was no other name proposed, Bhaiyyaji Joshi was unanimously elected as the Sarkaryavah for the next three years.”

Joshi was first chosen the general secretary in 2008, with Mohan Bhagwat taking over as the RSS Sarsanghachalak (chief), The Indian Express reported. With Saturday’s appointment, Joshi equalled the record for the most number of consecutive tenures – four – for a general secretary.
