M Natarajan, the husband of jailed All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam leader VK Sasikala, died on Tuesday at a hospital in Chennai, PTI reported. He was 74.

Sasikala, who is currently lodged in Parappanna Agrahara Jail, was allowed 15-day emergency parole to attend the last rites ceremony of Natarajan. Party officials told The News Minute that she is expected to travel by road to Thanjavur for the funeral.

Natarajan was taken to hospital on Saturday with a chest infection, after which he was put on ventilator support. He died at 1.35 am on Sunday, an official release by Gleneagles Global Health City said. His death certificate said he died of multiple-organ failure, ANI reported.

Natarajan had a liver and kidney transplant in October 2017. Sasikala was briefly released on parole at the time to visit her ailing husband.

Sasikala was convicted in February 2017 in an illegal assets case and sentenced to four years in jail.
