A Class 9 student of a private school in Delhi allegedly committed suicide on Tuesday because she was under “too much pressure” from two teachers, her family claimed. They alleged that the teachers failed the 15-year-old in her exams “intentionally”, ANI reported.

Police have booked the school’s principal and the two teachers on charges of abetting suicide, Hindustan Times reported.

The girl allegedly hanged herself when she was alone at her home in Noida on Tuesday evening, NDTV reported. The teachers used to scold the girl and touch her inappropriately, her parents said. Her father claimed that she had told him they would fail her in the exam, no matter how well she wrote.

The case against the two teachers was filed under Sections 306 (abetting suicide) and 506 (criminal intimidation) of the Indian Penal Code and also under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act. They could not find any suicide note, according to The Times of India.

A police team will visit the school in Mayur Vihar on Wednesday. The school’s principal called the incident “unfortunate” and said a re-test had been scheduled for the girl.
