Delhi Police registers cases in connection with CBSE exam paper leaks
The board has also said it will re-conduct the Class 10 mathematics and Class 12 economics exams.
The Delhi Police on Wednesday said it had registered two cases in connection with the suspected leak of the Class 12 economics paper and Class 10 mathematics paper during the Central Board of Secondary Education exams. The Class 10 mathematics examination was conducted on Wednesday, and the Class 12 economics examination on March 26.
The CBSE on Wednesday nullified the two exams and announced that they will both be reconducted on dates to be announced within a week. In a statement, the board said the decision was taken “in cognisance of certain happenings in the conduct of certain examinations”. The CBSE said the move was meant to uphold the sanctity of the board examination and was in the interest of the students.
The cases have been registered under charges of criminal conspiracy, criminal breach of trust and cheating, on the basis of complaints received from the regional director of CBSE, Joint Commissioner of Police (Crime Branch) Alok Kumar said. The police have formed a special investigation team to look into the matter.
The police said they have also received screenshots of the questions circulated on WhatsApp from the complainant, Kumar said.
Meanwhile, the Delhi Police said they have not received any complaint in connection with an alleged leak of the Class 12 accountancy exam paper, which was conducted on March 15. The CBSE had earlier ruled out such a leak and said that it would take action against any rumours.
Corrections and clarifications: An earlier version of this copy quoted the police as saying that complaints were registered in connection with the suspected leak of accountancy paper, and that the Delhi Police had received no complaints concerning economics and mathematics papers.
The police clarified on that in a press briefing.
