Finance Minister Arun Jaitley was re-elected the Leader of the Rajya Sabha on Tuesday as he began his fourth consecutive term as a member of the Upper House, PTI reported.

Jaitley has been the Leader of the Rajya Sabha since June 2014 after the Bharatiya Janata Party came to power. Earlier, he was the Leader of the Opposition in the Rajya Sabha.

The finance minister’s third six-year term as a Rajya Sabha MP from Gujarat ended on Monday. In the elections held in March, he was elected a member of the Upper House again, this time from Uttar Pradesh.

The Rajya Sabha was adjourned on Tuesday after 41 of the 58 newly elected and re-elected members took oath. Jaitley was not among them.
