Mumbai: Man arrested for molesting, assaulting woman on local train
A video shot by one of the passengers showed the accused dragging the woman by the hair, assaulting her, overpowering her and then trying to strangle her.
The Mumbai police on Thursday arrested a man for molesting and trying to strangle a woman on a local train, The Times of India reported. The incident took place on a Thane-bound train from Chhattrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus railway station, in the coach allocated for people with disabilities, around 11 pm on Thursday.
A video shot by one of the passengers showed the man dragging the woman by the hair, assaulting her, overpowering her and then trying to strangle her. The woman is seen fighting back. Passengers sitting in the same coach did not get up to help the woman.
While the adjacent women’s compartment was not empty, and even had a policeman on duty, they could not stop the man because of the partition between the two coaches, News18 reported.
It is unclear if the two knew each other. According to The Times of India, the man owed the woman money and attacked her after an altercation over it.
The other passengers alerted the Dadar police, who arrested him when the train stopped at the railway station.
