The Delhi Police Crime Branch on Thursday said the Central Board of Secondary Education’s Class 10 mathematics paper was leaked by the teacher who was earlier arrested for his suspected involvement in the Class 12 economics paper leak.

The police had arrested three people – examination centre superintendent Rakesh Kumar, clerk Amit Sharma and peon Ashok Kumar – on April 7 from the Dayanand Anglo-Vedic School in Himachal Pradesh’s Una district.

On Thursday, investigators said Rakesh Kumar had confessed that he was also involved in the mathematics paper leak, PTI reported.

“Rakesh Kumar had initially said that when he went to collect the question papers of computer science and information practices from a Union Bank of India branch in Una on March 23, he had picked up a packet of the economics paper, as well,” Delhi Deputy Commissioner of Police (Crime Branch) Ram Gopal Naik said, according to the Hindustan Times. “He later admitted to have picked up a Class 10 mathematics paper bundle, as well.”

The Delhi Police also arrested a woman in connection with the case. With this, the case had been solved, Naik claimed, according to ANI.

The maths examination was held on March 28. Photographs of a handwritten copy of the question paper were leaked on WhatsApp the previous night.

The central government faced massive backlash after the Class 10 mathematics and Class 12 economics question papers were leaked. The economics exam, which was held on March 26, will be conducted again on April 25, but the board has decided not to re-conduct the Class 10 mathematics paper after it found that the leak had had little impact on the results.

CBSE Chairperson Anita Karwal had been informed of one of the leaks via email, but she said she could not cancel the examinations without verifying the information first.

On April 1, a CBSE official was suspended for lax supervision of the Class 12 economics examination. The suspension followed the arrest of two teachers and the owner of a coaching centre for their alleged involvement in the economics paper leak.

The Jharkhand Police had arrested 12 people, including students and private tutors, on March 31 in connection with the mathematics paper leaks.
