After the incident, the Interior Ministry issued instructions saying users need to get permission for the devices until regulations were finalised.
Security forces in Saudi Arabia on Saturday shot down a toy drone near the royal palace in Riyadh. Videos shared online showed heavy gunfire in the neighbourhood, triggering fears of a possible coup attempt, Reuters reported.
The official spokesperson of the Riyadh Police said they had “dealt with” an unauthorised, small drone-type toy after spotting it in Khuzama locality around 7.50 pm (10.20 pm Indian time), state-run SPA news agency reported, according to Al Jazeera. An investigation is under way.
After this incident, the Interior Ministry of Saudi Arabia on Sunday issued instructions on the use of drones, saying users need to get permission to fly the devices until the government finalised the regulations, Reuters reported.
