Tata Sons names former Foreign Secretary S Jaishankar president of global corporate affairs
He will be responsible for the development of the company’s international strategy, and will report to Chairperson N Chandrasekaran.
Tata Sons on Monday announced that former Foreign Secretary S Jaishankar has been appointed the group’s president of global corporate affairs. He will report to Tata Sons Chairperson N Chandrasekaran.
“In his new role, he will be responsible for the Tata group’s global corporate affairs and international strategy development and Tata Sons’ international offices will report to him,” the company said in a statement.
Jaishankar said the Tata group was an iconic institution. “I look forward to being part of the Tata group and working with key stakeholders to make an impact,” he added.
Jaishankar will also work with other Tata companies to strengthen their global presence. “His extensive experience and knowledge on international affairs will be very valuable to the group as we work to reinforce our brand and leadership globally,” said Chandrasekaran. A large portion of the company’s revenues now is generated abroad, according to Business Standard.
Jaishankar was India’s foreign secretary from January 2015 to January 2018. Before that, he was the high commissioner to Singapore, and ambassador to China and the United States. He had also negotiated the civilian nuclear agreement between India and the United States.
