Mumbai Police arrest conman accused of impersonating Salman Khan’s brother-in-law
Harshal Bhalerao reportedly cheated a resident of Kolkata of Rs 1.02 lakh.
The Mumbai Police on Tuesday arrested a 27-year-old man for allegedly posing as actor Salman Khan’s brother-in-law Aayush Sharma on social media, and cheating a Kolkata resident of Rs 1.02 lakh on the pretext of getting his son into an international school in the city, The Indian Express reported.
Harshal Bhalerao, a resident of Kalyan in Thane district, also allegedly promised the complainant that he would get his wife a leading role in Khan’s next movie Dabangg 3. Bhalerao was produced at a court on Tuesday, and remanded to judicial custody.
The alleged case of fraud was uncovered when the the staff of the Bandra-based international school received an email from the complainant, Rajat Chatterjee, in April, asking when his son can join the school. In the email, Chatterjee had also attached a “receipt” for the money he had paid for his son’s admission. The school did not find any record of the child’s admission and realised that it had been forged, an unidentified police officer told The Indian Express.
The school administration then lodged a complaint at the Bandra Kurla Complex police station, and the case was transferred to the Mumbai Crime Branch, Mumbai Mirror reported. Chatterjee had spoken with Bhalerao over phone, and the messaging details helped the police track him down.
