A fire broke out at the Space Applications Centre, a facility of the Indian Space Research Organisation in Ahmedabad, on Thursday afternoon. A Central Industrial Security Force officer was injured in the incident, ANI reported.

The fire broke out in building number 37, which houses heavy machinery, and is suspected to have been caused by a short circuit, India Today reported. At least 25 fire tenders were rushed to the spot, the daily said. However, ANI said 20 fire tenders and 10 ambulances had reached the facility.

Additional Chief Fire Officer Rajesh Bhatt told PTI, “It will take two more hours to control the blaze as thermocol sheets are still burning and emitting smoke.”

Ahmedabad District Collector Vikrant Pandey said the blaze had engulfed the research centre building. “The fire will not spread to other buildings on the premises as the structure stood isolated,” he added.
