Pakistan Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi on Sunday said extremism was not limited to a particular country or region and that it was “a global issue”, PTI reported. He made the statement while visiting the family of a Pakistani exchange student who was killed in a shooting at a high school in Texas in United States on Friday.

Abbasi and Sindh Governor Muhammad Zubair on Sunday visited the house of Sabika Sheikh in Karachi’s Gulshan-e-Iqbal. Sheikh was among 10 people who were killed in the shooting. She was set to return home for Eid, CNN reported.

On Monday, funeral prayers were held for Sheikh at a mosque in Houston, Texas, organised by the Pakistani Consulate, reported Geo News. Her body will be flown back to Karachi on Tuesday.

“Extremism was not an issue limited to a particular country or region,” said Abbasi. He asked the international community to find out what had caused the shooting. “We have to learn from each other’s experiences,” he said.

The United States has repeatedly criticised Pakistan for sheltering terrorists. In January, US President Donald Trump said that his country had foolishly given Pakistan $33 billion (Rs 2.10 lakh crore) in aid over the last 15 years. In return, he claimed, Pakistan had given the US nothing but “lies and deceit” and called the country a “safe haven” for terrorists.
