Bharatiya Janata Party President Amit Shah on Thursday accused the Mamata Banerjee government in West Bengal of unleashing violence in the state, and urged people to vote it out of power, PTI reported.

“If Trinamool Congress thinks that through violence they can continue to remain in power in Bengal, then I would like to challenge them that the sacrifice of our workers will not go in vain and their government will not last long,” ANI quoted Shah as saying in Purulia district.

On June 25, the West Bengal Crime Investigation Department arrested a man from Purulia district for his alleged role in the murder of Trilochan Mahato, who the BJP claimed was its member. The party alleged that Mahato’s killing was linked to last month’s violent civic body elections in the state. A few days after Mahato’s death, the party claimed that one more worker had been killed in the district. The police, however, said it was suicide.

Shah alleged that the Narendra Modi-led government’s development schemes were not reaching the people of the state because of Trinamool Congress. “Under the UPA government, the 13th Finance Commission gave West Bengal only Rs 1,32,000 crore while in the 14th Finance Commission, the BJP-led government gave Rs 3,60,000 crore for the development of the state,” Shah claimed.

The BJP leader said that Bengal had not development as the “goons of TMC” got a free rein. “All factories have shut down in the state, only bomb-making factories are running successfully,” he added.
