The Centre on Friday released the revenue and expenditure data for the first two months of the 2018-’19 financial year. The Ministry of Finance said in a tweet that the government’s net revenue amounted to Rs 1.27 lakh crore for the April-May period. This includes Rs 1.02 lakh crore of tax revenue, non-tax revenue worth Rs 24,049 crore and non-debt capital receipts worth Rs 1,004 crore.

Of the total revenue, Rs 1.11 lakh crore was transferred to states as devolution of the share of taxes, the finance ministry said.

The ministry said that the total government expenditure during the April-May period was almost 4.73 lakh crore. Of this, over 4.09 lakh crore was revenue expenditure and 63,791 crore capital expenditure.

Earlier, Finance Minister Arun Jaitley said in a blog post that as many as 6.86 crore assesees filed tax returns in the 20017-’18 financial year, an increase of 1.06 crore from the previous year. “The total income tax collection for the year 2017-’18 is Rs 10.02 lakh crore. “Last year, despite formidable economic challenges, the income tax collection managed to grow by over 18%,” Jaitley said.

Jaitley added that the impact of the Goods and Services Tax on direct tax collection will be seen in the 2018-’19 fiscal year. He said that in the first quarter of 2018-’19, the advance tax deposits have increased by 44% in the personal income tax category and 17% in the corporate tax category over the corresponding period in 2017-’18.
