Afghanistan: At least 12 killed, 20 injured in blast in Jalalabad
The explosion took place hours after President Ashraf Ghani arrived in the city on a two-day visit.
At least 12 people died and 20 were injured in a blast on Sunday at Jalalabad, a city in eastern Afghanistan, TOLONews reported.
The blast occurred at 4 pm local time (5 pm Indian time). President Ashraf Ghani is on a two-day visit to the Nangarhar province. Jalalabad is the capital of Nangarhar.
Officials told Reuters the toll could have been much higher had the city not been closed for Ghani’s visit.
Provincial governor spokesman Attaullah Khogyani said it was a suicide bombing. The targets of the attack were Sikhs and Hindus, on their way to the governor’s office to meet Ghani, AP reported.
No group has claimed responsibility for the attack yet.
