Suburban train services in Mumbai resumed on Wednesday afternoon when the city got a break from heavy downpour, reported the Hindustan Times. However, heavy rainfall is expected over the region, especially over the Konkan and Goa coast, till Saturday, the India Meteorological Department has said.

Trains between Churchgate and Dahanu Road were on time while those between Vasai Road and Virar were being run on restricted speed. All lines between Vasai Road and Virar were now open. The suburban train services between Bhayander and Virar will commence once the water level on tracks recede, said the chief spokesperson of Western Railways, Ravinder Bhakar. “Our suburban services are normalising, but regular services will be started only after the water recedes to a safe level on all lines,” he told PTI.

Earlier in the day, reports said local and long distance train services were hit. The Indian Army joined the National Disaster Response Force and the local administration in relief operations at the Nallasopara railway station, reported The Indian Express on Tuesday.

Western Railway on Tuesday said that the Indian Army or Navy had been requested to help transport food supplies and relief material to passengers stranded at railway stations between Vasai Road and Virar in Mumbai. Commuters were stranded as incessant rains over the past two days led to flooding in the city. At Naigon station, stranded passengers were provided food packets.

Western Railway announced that several long distance trains were cancelled on Wednesday due to heavy rain and water logging on the tracks.

There was also a traffic jam on the Western Express Highway on Wednesday morning after a metro crane collapsed.

The India Meteorological Department forecast heavy to very heavy rain in a few places and extremely heavy rain in isolated places along the Konkan coast and Goa on Wednesday. Mumbai is likely to receive intermittent rains with heavy rain in a few places in the city and suburbs.
