US: Adult film star, who claimed to have had affair with Donald Trump, arrested
Stefanie Clifford’s lawyer, Michael Avenatti, said they would contest all the charges against her.
Adult film star Stephanie Clifford who claimed to have had an affair with United States President Donald Trump, was arrested on Thursday, her lawyer Michael Avenatti said. Avenatti alleged that her arrest was “a politically motivated set up”. Clifford is better known by her screen name Stormy Daniels.
In May, Trump had admitted to knowing about his attorney paying $1,30,000 to Clifford, before the 2016 presidential elections. The president had claimed that the payment to Clifford had nothing to do with his election campaign.
Avenatti said Clifford was arrested in Columbus Ohio while performing an act in a strip club that she had performed across the United States. “She was arrested for allegedly allowing a customer to touch her while on stage in a non sexual manner!” Avenatti tweeted. “Are you kidding me? They are devoting law enforcement resources to sting operations for this? There has to be higher priorities!”
Her lawyer said he expected her to be released on bail soon. “We also expect that she will be charged with a misdemeanor for allowing ‘touching’. We will vehemently contest all charges.”
The president had obtained a restraining order against Clifford in February to prevent her from publicly speaking about their alleged affair. Clifford is suing Trump and his lawyer and trying to invalidate a non-disclosure agreement she had signed days before the election.
