Hindi film and television actress Rita Bhaduri died on Tuesday morning due to kidney-related ailments. She was 62.

Bhaduri had been admitted in the Intensive Care Unit of Sujay Hospital in Mumbai for the past 10 days. The funeral will be held later on Tuesday in Mumbai.

In a career spanning more than three decades, Bhaduri acted in more than 70 films and 30 television shows. She was last seen as Imarti Devi in Star Bharat’s TV show Nimki Mukhiya. Her most notable films include Julie (1975), Sawan Ko Aane Do (1979), Beta (1992) and Raja (1995).

Bhaduri graduated from the Film and Television Institute of India in Pune in 1973. She started her career by playing supporting roles in Hindi films such as Kanya Kumari (1974), Udhaar Ka Sindhoor (1976), Bezubaan (1982), Sindoor Aur Bandook (1989), Love (1991) and Kabhi Haan Kabhi Naa (1993).

Bhaduri has also acted in several television shows such as Doordarshan’s Chunauti (1987-1988), Amaanat (1997-2002), Kumkum Ek Pyara Sa Bandhan (2002-2009) and Choti Bahu Sinduur Bin Suhagan (2010-2012). She also acted in Sarabhai Vs Sarabhai and Khichdi.

She was nominated for a Filmfare Award for Best Supporting Actress for her performance in Raja (1995).

In an interview to The Times of India in 2011, Bhaduri had said that she still felt she had a lot to learn. “I still feel like a student because I am still learning as an actor and when people ask about my favourite role I only say that I live in the moment and the role I play today is my best character,” she had said.
