Aircel-Maxis case: P Chidambaram files anticipatory bail plea in Delhi court

Former Union minister P Chidambaram moved a Delhi court on Monday, seeking anticipatory bail in the Aircel-Maxis case, ANI reported. The Patiala House Court will hear his plea at 2 pm.
The Central Bureau of Investigation had on Thursday filed a new chargesheet in the case at the Patiala House Court against 18 people, including Chidambaram and his son Karti Chidambaram.
The case pertains to clearances that the Foreign Investment Promotion Board granted to the firm M/s Global Communication Holding Services Ltd for investment in Aircel in 2006. P Chidambaram was the finance minister at the time. His son, Karti Chidambaram, who is also under investigation, allegedly facilitated bribes in the Aircel-Maxis transaction.
The investigative agency is looking into “the circumstances” in which P Chidambaram, in his capacity as finance minister, approved the investment.
On July 10, the court had extended till August 7 the interim protection from arrest granted to Chidambaram in the case.
P Chidambaram has also moved an anticipatory bail petition in the Delhi High Court in the INX Media case, ANI reported.
