Suspected Kashmiri militants on Saturday released Special Police Officer Mudasir Ahmad Lone after his mother appealed to them to “forgive” and let go of her son. Inspector General of Police (Kashmir Range) SP Pani confirmed that Lone had returned home after being released, ANI reported.

Hareefa, Lone’s mother, addressed the media at her home in Chan Kitar area of Tral sub-district in Jammu and Kashmir, reported Greater Kashmir. Describing the kidnapping, Hareefa said that Lone to announce during Friday prayers that he was quitting the job, but some work held him back. Later that day, Lone was abducted.

“You are also my own children. I request you to kindly set him free and he will quit the job and apologise for all his mistakes,” Hareefa said she told the militants, pleading for the safety of her only son. “If you hear any complaint in future, you can kill us all.”

A few hours later, militants let Lone go and he returned home on Saturday night.

Three militants had abducted Lone from the courtyard of his home in Pulwama district on Friday. He was posted at the Reshipora police post in Awantipora as a cook, but was on leave.

On July 21, a police constable abducted by suspected militants from his home in Kulgam district was found dead with several bullet wounds in Qaimoh town. On July 7, the body of a police constable, who was abducted by suspected militants, was recovered in Kulgam.
